Basement Waterproofing Oakville, Ontario
First, we isolate all foundation cracks in the basement foundation walls. We set up tarps and begin excavations to the footing of the basement foundation wall (typically 8ft deep).
Then, we use a wire brush to clean the exposed walls and chisel out the cracks. We apply hydraulic cement in the cracks using a trowel. After the cement is set, we move on to the next step in the repair.
We then apply a quick-drying primer to the concrete foundation walls. This primer is crucial to provide extra adhesion to the walls for the next steps in the waterproofing process.
A rubberized membrane is then applied to the entire repair area using a trowel. This rubberized membrane does not allow any liquid, air, or moisture. Then, we apply a layer of fiberglass mesh on top of the rubberized membrane. This fiberglass mesh provides flexibility to the membrane. Another layer of rubberized membrane is applied on top of the fiberglass mesh (this creates a double coat and gives extra protection).
A plastic layer is applied on top of the membrane while the patch is still sticky. This creates a quadruple layer of protection on the walls. Then, we install a drainage board on the top. This protects the membrane during backfilling and acts as an additional protection against water.
We then check the existing weeping tile system and ensure necessary repairs or replacements are carried out. A filter sock is installed to clean fine particles from groundwater to protect the weeping tile system.
The last step in this process is backfilling. We start by surrounding the weeping tile system with clear gravel on top and around the weeping tile drainage. This helps to get a clear flow for drainage. The native soil is then poured back into the trench. We power tamp the soil every 6″ -12″ inches, which helps keep the membranes locked in place and also helps to restore the original grading of the ground.
Finally, a termination strip is attached to the top of the drainage board to ensure that the strip does not separate from the board. Then, we clean up the worksite and removed all debris. The process is now complete.
